RF Gill & Associates
An identity to shape an engineering firm’s next steps.
The Brief
RF Gill and Associates is a structural and civil engineering design practice established in 1969 with offices in London and Essex, distinguished by their responsive, innovative and collaborative approach. I was contacted by their director, Rob, who had been given the opportunity to lead the firm going forwards. This was a company that had never really had a recognisable identity before, and he was keen to rectify this.
The Solution
We tried various design routes based around the concepts of form and structure. The chosen direction combines simple and abstract block lettering alongside clear sans serif typography. These bold shapes were further utilised as supporting graphics and image holders. Rob’s Christian faith is important to him, and he also wanted to reference this somehow in the identity. This was achieved by creating a supporting icon, taking inspiration from both the cross and the star of Bethlehem.
